Hello all
I am using ubuntu 9.10 with my laptop and m using a windows mobile device as a phone. now the device has become fairly old and its battery backup have diminished.I m planning to buy a new phone .But at the same time I
want the following properties in the mobile device.
1)Its operating system should be open sourced.
2) form factor should be such that it comes in my pocket.
3)New programs can be written for it using a ubuntu laptop.
4)battery backup shoud be fairly long.
5)not very expensive.
6) edge and 3g must. I sometimes use my phone for connecting to internet .
In one line it should be a perfect companion for my karmic koala laptop.
any suggestions will be thank fully accepted.

If your looking for an open source os, I think android and possibly Moeybo (sp?) are your main choices. What carrier do you have?

"5) not very expensive"...

the HTC Droid Eris through Verizon should be your best bet for now but the options are changing rapidly

You could always get a Motorola Cliq, I think that's a reasonably cheap Android Phone.

More Mainstream Android phones should be released soon though.

The iphone fits most of the things you want, but can you put itunes on ubuntu. But there is a itunes clone called double twist and that might work with wine.http://ubuntuforums.org/images/icons/icon10.gif
