I just got my a new Dell Vostro laptop. it has been a while since I have used ubuntu since my older computer is running Linux Mint. The Dell came with jaunty installed on it which I decided to upgrade to Karmic. Desktop effects and compiz ran fine before I upgraded but now when I try to enable desktop effect it says "searching for drivers" after it complets its search anouther window comes up with a "failed to enable effects"
Do I need to search for drivers online to enable Desktop effects?
Where do I start my search? Also the Dell came with a disk that had drivers on it but I can't run it untill my cd drive comes. In order to reduce weight this model of laptod has no internal cd drive.

thanks for any help
