Start problem after upgrading

Hi to all, I'm user of ubuntu 9.10. Yesterday, i've upgraded my system, but when i restart the computer, when i enter my password it refuses to start. it always retuns me the welcomed page. My passw is correct, so i don't know how to fix the proplem. Any suggestion is welcommed Happy new Year to all

Try to change your password and log in again
