I realize that this is constantly asked, with no definitive answer. I will ask again...Is there a way to really lock down the panels in 9.10?

I shift back and forth between 3 different resolutions, depending on whether my laptop is docked at home, my office, or using the native screen (1920x1200, 1680x1050, or 1024x768). All of my panels are docked right and the locked down option is ticked. No matter what I do, the panels shift around... very annoying.

Well, someone has been working on it for 6 months now, since being assigned as a papercut in Karmic:

I will agree that this is annoying. Perhaps unchecking the "Expand" option before switching resolutions?

Adding panel separators works as a workaround. Not a true fix, but OK for now.

Even with separators and everything "locked" to the panel, I still objects jumping around... seems to be whatever is farthest to the right will get jumbled up.
