wireless lan problem

Greets all, I have a canyon wireless lan usb adapter, it works perfect in windows xp but in ubuntu 9.10 it only works after I connect, after 3 minutes it dies out, says that it is still connected but no luck. Then I need to disconnect and then re-connect it again then it works for +- 3 minutes again, sometimes longer, sometimes less,

Any Ideas will help as I am new to Linux

all i need to find out is how to keep wlan alive without manually unplugging it?
