When you type LOL on your keyboard or smartphone, are unarticulated sounds really emitting from your mouth and are you really laughing out loud in real life?

Post here to further explain.

UPDATE: Wow, 6 replies in just the first 2 minutes!

I don't write "L.O.L.". And no, I didn't do it that time.

No. If i write LMAO, my *** doesn't drop off either, but I am laughing out loud.

If I write "LOL", I'm writing it as a subtle insult of the person to whom I'm directing the comment.

Probably about 90% of the time I write it I actually am. If it's something funny that makes me smile I'll just give a :)

A long time ago, L.O.L actually meant "Lots of Love".... I wonder when that changed? :-?

I guess people don't love any more... Language is a cruel mistress.

If I write LOL it means I could not think of what else to say.

Sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not. In cases where I'm not I try to use lqtm (laughing quietly to myself).

It's not widely used, which is why I put the explanation after it. I only know a few other people who know it and usually when I use it the person sends back a "?".

If I write lol, I might have chuckled, but generally I just found it amusing without much actual laughter.

If I actually have decayed into uncontrolled laughter, I'll probably write something like "lol!", "*lol*", or maybe use an lol/rofl smiley (multiple times if I almost pass out laughing), depending on whether such a smiley exists and is any good on the board/list/whatever that I'm posting on. (The "LOL!" signboard just doesn't cut it).

Yes or I really want to. I will always at least get a strong chuckle.

I was a bit worried about that, Better not to laugh too hard or my *** will fall off.

It's pretty hard to type while I ROFL.

I prefer LOLOL, which is when I yell "LOL" out loud at some hilarity.*

Sometimes, and sometimes I'm just loling in my mind(inner voice).

Reading this does remind me of those old, producer, movie guys, sitting around assessing and looking totally deadpan while saying, "THAT'S funny! That's really funny." Maybe they WERE loling in their inner mind.

If I say it, I'm pretty much doing it. :)

Considering the rarity at which I use it, yes, I am laughing when I say lol, except now.

Yes. I don't use it as a random expression. I only type it if it is, in fact, true.
