I'm new to Ubuntu. It's on a desktop that has a dialup modem but no other Internet access (and I haven't even gotten the modem working yet...). So I have it hooked up to a Win2K laptop on the network that is Sharing its (dialup) Internet connection.

Obviously, this is purgatory on earth. Now, my question: I can take the laptop to the public library and leech off their wifi to download stuff at much higher speeds. It's not practical for me to take the desktop to the library...

Is there a way for me to use the Windows laptop (at the library) to download the packages Update Manager tries to get for Ubuntu, bring it home, transfer them to the Ubuntu desktop, and have Update Manager just install 'em from there?

Thanks for your help from the dark side of the digital divide...
