Yesterday I did a upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10.
When the upgrade was almost finished my PC crashed.
At reboot I got the following message:
Starting up ...
[ 0832148] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown block (0,0)
Has anyone some kind of remedy to solve this problem !?

Now we are one day further and I am able to start up.
I can get to the log in screen, but after entering my password this is what happens:
I get a Ubuntu-brownish screen and in the right bottom corner a little notice which says:
The configuration defaults of the GNOME Power Management have not been installed correctly. Contact your system manager.
Problem is: on this machine I am the system manager, and unable to find a solution.
Anyone out there that could give me a hand to solve this problem.
I would be quite obliged.
