View Full Version : How do you pronounce "Aeropostale"?

I know that the correct way to pronounce "Aeropostale" is to stress the last syllable, and that it has a French pronunciation. But everyone, and I mean everyone around where I live pronounces it wrong. They all pronounce it like "aeroPOSSel" kind of like the two words air + apostle. No one believes me when I tell them the correct way to pronounce it, even when I let them know that they pronounce it that way on the company's recording on their 800 phone number. I would think the company knows how to pronounce their own name.

So what I want to know is how do you pronounce "Aeropostale"?

That explains it. I care not for clothing. So it's not a proper word. I see.

Oh, and sudoer - it's not a really word, just a name for a brand/shop :)

Its a clothing retailer here in the USA, they sell cheap clothing at higher then average prices to teens and make them think they got something.

Well, you guys have the Royal Academy to regulate spelling. There are still big pronunciation differences among the various dialects.

it's a French word, meaning "(by) air mail"

Air mail envelopes have par avion printed on them. Aéropostale was a French aviation company that ran an air mail service during the 1920s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A9ropostale_%28aviation%29).

Note the acute accent over the first e in Aéropostale. It's pronounced AY-ro-po-STAL (the final a is as in "cat").

Let's just say the same people who wear Aeropostale listen to their iPods while texting on their (disposable) T-Mobile Sidekicks.

So I see that no one in the world except people in Indiana pronounce it "air apostle". :)

Hey, I don't support the company, nor do I wear any of their clothes. I just hate it when I pronounce it the right way and all these little early teen players look at me like I'm crazy.
