The WL-500g Premium v2 is an excellent wireless router. It has high-end hardware for a consumer device, perfect for installing a Linux firmware. I bought it new two years ago, and used it as a wireless bridge with Tomato firmware. It was always surge-protected and used in a non-smoking home. It currently has the latest official ASUS firmware: version 3.0.4.4.
