View Full Version : Anyone know of a script/command to convert audio files to flac?

I know that I'll be losing quality, it's just sortof an experiment type of thing. I want to listen to the original files and then the converted flac files, and perhaps rip an album in flac, and compare all 3 using my ear as judge.

EDIT: heh, guess SoundConverter works just fine. Guess I'll post results soon.

Well flac is a lossless codec (Free Lossless Audio Codec) so any conversion to flac will be the same as the original.

ripperx will do it for you. It can be installed with Synaptic Package Manager.

for the most part - but whatever you do, do NOT take that same now lossless file and convert back to lossy. you'll lose quality more than a typical lossless to lossy conversion.

ffmpeg -i file.mp3 file.flac

you can use that.
