Hi guys,

I am having a problem with getting Ubuntu 9.10 to boot off the Live CD. I have burned multiple copies (downloaded from different servers), and all of them burn fine (passes MD5 checksum), but none of the copies boot on my desktop. I've tested Ubuntu 8.10 live CD, and it worked fine. I've tried burning it from my laptop, and same result. I've tried the CD on other computers, and it works on the laptop, but not the desktop.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Do you have your BIOS set to boot first from CD?

Haha, yep. So, basically, when it boots on the desktop, it goes to a black screen with nothing on it.

Try the Alternate CD

I'm not seeing it in the download options...

Just to be crystal clear. Did you burn it as an iso or a data cd? You need to burn it as an iso!

ISO, I know how to burn the disc properly, like I said, it worked on my laptop.

Is the alternate CD just an installer? I want only the Live CD for testing purposes, I don't want to install Ubuntu.

You could try the live CD in low graphics mode, perhaps. You can find that, I think, on one of the F# (function) keys. Press them one by one and you may be able to find it.

When do I press one of those keys? My computer is brand new, I just built it recently, so it has plenty of horsepower. I don't understand, my friends are all having the same issues. How come this is not widely reported?

Hi

I don't have a nvidia card, but I'd suggest wandering over to this thread --> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305459 That is where I believe from reading other threads, where your issue lays. Your card, evidently, is supported - it may just not have the required driver installed / enabled.

Hope that gets you in the right direction.

Regards,

Phill.
