Hi all,

Through having to install some larger drives, I've found out that 8.04 comes with gParted 0.3.5 and when I run the update request, that's all there seems to be in the repository. I'd like to get a newer version that I don't have to run from the live CD but I have no idea how to add things that the system doesn't just install.

Can anyone help me out?

thanks!

Gparted 0.4.6.1 is not supported by any current version of Ubuntu (Karmic uses 0.4.5.2).

I would question why you'd want to use a new and unsupported version of such an important system utility. :) Presumably you are still using Hardy because you value stability, yes?

If you decide you do need the newest version (for whatever reason) I recommend leaving your Ubuntu install unblemished and using Gparted Live (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php) instead.

I would question why you'd want to use a totally new and unsupported version of such an important system utility. :) Presumably you are still using Hardy because you value stability, yes?

Using Hardy because when I installed it, that was what was out there and I know very little about Linux but trying to learn and I figured, it works and does what I need, so no need to change.

As for the version of gParted, I don't necessarily need the latest and greatest, but something above 0.3.5 from what I read last nite. I think even 0.3.7 would fix issues of partitioning drives over 1tb.

thanks!
