View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installation problems

I am trying to install the latest version of ubuntu on my computer, but it stops at about 22% in and it goes directly to the ubuntu desktop (the option of "Try ubuntu," instead of installing it). However when it loads in there, it is just a blank wallpaper with my cursor.

I am extremely frustrated, because I was trying windows 7 and I kept getting blue screens, so naturally I am going to give ubuntu another try because windows is just a big hassel.

The version I am trying to install is the 64 bit version, if that matters, however I noticed that it just had a download labeled for amd. I am not sure what that means. Thanks in advance.

Check md5sum (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM) of downloaded iso.If it is not correct download same iso with torrent and point download to the folder where your existing iso is.Torrent will just check iso for bad files and replace them with good ones.After that check md5sum again.More about downloading,burning... here. Sweet, I forgot about doing that. However, I did the checksum and they match. During the installation it is telling me about a corrupt file. I burned the image on another disk on the slowest speed possible. Hopefully this fixes it. Anyone else getting this issue / can help me / has a possible fix?

Negative. Still getting an error with installing this. My sister goes back to college tomorrow, and I wont have a computer to communicate my problems and or look up possible solutions.

It keeps on trying to tell me that my dvd was recorded at a high speed or it is too hot or dirty, but this not the case. Christ I have been at this a while, but I suppose its just a problem with the distribution. I will have to go back to windows for now :/

Did you check CD for errors as described here? (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck?action=show&redirect=CDIntegrityCheck)

As another solution you can try to download alternate CD and try with it.
