Is there a program I can install that will show if I have mail? There was one in the days of Windows that didn't need me to have the web browser running and showed a box with a red light when the inbox got 'hit' with a mail. I was installed via an exe file....

What mail provider are you using? I'm using Gmail and the program mail-notification (installed from synaptic) to get notified of new mail.

If you need help to get it working with the new notification system just ask.

Thanks.

I use Yahoo as my primary mail. I've installed the Gmail notifier and it shows when mail arrives but when I right-click on the icon in the panel and select 'Go to inbox', nothing happens. My browser doesn't spring to life and launch Gmail.

Have you installed gmail-notify? I have no experience with that program, the one I'm using is
sudo apt-get install mail-notificationIt should work with Yahoo as well as Gmail. There is also a package called fetchyahoo (suggested by Synaptic) that you might need to get it to work with Yahoo, trial and error I guess ;)
