Hi Ubuntu devotees,

Really wanted to make Ubuntu 9.10 my OS but just could not make a go of it!

Initially struggled with frozen mouse and keyboard with the Live CD. Found I had to disable ACPI in the bios but then Vista failed in my dual boot setup. Turned ACPI back on in bios and found a way to disable it for Ubuntu during boot. Was learning more but got into more problems.

Without ACPI active this prevented the power management settings from working. Was expecting this handicap and willing to live with it.

But then could not get my Nvidia video setting to stick after a reboot. Tried everything in the forums.

Another bug was the sound would change to static when the volume slider was moved. Could usually recover by toggling the play/pause button.

Ubuntu has a lot of promise but needs more polish.

Try a Long Term Support, LTS, version. I'm running 8.04 and it doesn't have anything wrong with it! AMD64, SoundBlaster audio card, and an ATI 9250 for video, D-Link NIC, HP printer.
