Greetings,

I am on the development team for Michigan State University (MSU) (http://www.msu.edu) web site (http://www.msu.edu). This morning we launched our redesign.

We had a user comment saying that the site didn't look right on his Linux & Firefox 1.5 configuration. We did a test on Linux and Firefox 1.5 and it looked fine for us.

I was wondering if you guys could take a look at the site on your different configurations and throw up a post with reactions.

At MSU, we work towards making sure that our web site works for the broadest possible audience (including Linux users). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Justin

Looks fine here :)

He could have been using a developer alpha/beta or something.

Good to see that you're into cross-browser support and web standards. Your site is coded very well.

Edit: It seems I get rendering error as well. See kaamos' post.

Looks just fine here. Good looking design as well.

EDIT: scratch that. There is a problem with the top banner.

2: with Internet Exploder 6 http://iki.fi/alaisi/temp/ie6.png

Alright, I have the same problem as well.

We think the bug could be with the Linux version of Firefox 1.5. Apparently when you upgrade to Firefox 1.5.0.1 the problem is fixed.

What version of Firefox are you guys using? If you are using 1.5, does upgrading fix the problem?

I use 1.5.0.1 with Ubuntu 5.10...

So you use Firefox 1.5.0.1. and you still get the problem?

Yes.

Btw, if/when you find a solution (or a reason) to this problem, make sure to post it here. Thanks.

I see nothing wrong with it....
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060124 Firefox/1.5.0.1

hmm what resolution is everybody using? things can get screwed up on different resolutions if it's not done right.
I'm on 1024x768

Using version 1.5.0.1 on a resolution of 1152x864, on Ubuntu Breezy.

I'm having the same problem. The banner seems be pushed directly to the right edge of the currently selected tab.

I will also have to say that I love the code, though. A web designer/developer can really appreciate someone elses code when it is indented like that.

majikstreet: 1400x1050. The problem is not there on the front page. Click on for example "Current Students".

using firefox 1.5.0.1-3 on Arch Linux 0.7.1, im getting a similar problem. when you click the top navigation buttons, the image appears below them (which is correct) but to the right of the button you clicked, so images are moving further and further off to the right as you select the faculty and alumni links and such

The screenie I provided was taken using Ff 1.5.0.1.

Firefox 1.5
Mozilla/5.0

Resolution: 1600x1200

Looks like it works just fine.

Although my own personal opinion, the design lacks in several areas. Doesn't look very professional.

Screen shot below.

By the way, do you mind posting the source to the site? We may be able to help you fix it...after all, we're all geeks here ;)

Same problem with the top banner here as well..

Took a look at it in Safari/OS X, IE on XP Pro, Firefox 1.5, Camino, and Opera..

only seems to be a firefox/mozilla/netscape issue.

Did you get the problem on a non-linux mozilla-type browser? For me both ff1.5 and seamonkey 1.0 rendered the page fine in windows. Quite strange.

@TechSonic: All the pages worked? Not just the front page?

FYI - Works fine in Opera, all pages...except the side menu comes up above that green bar and it makes it look odd...

Actually no. It worked just fine on Windows FF 1.5. It only messed up on FF 1.5 with Linux (Kubuntu 5.10). Wierd.

Must be a genuine bug in Linux FF then. Should be reported.

I have the issue on the current students page.

Checking it out with Firefox 1.5 on ubuntu - the front page and most of the others look fine. The main image that spans the width near the top, however, gets skewed on certain pages (like Current Students).

Nice design.

I'm an alumnus of Michigan State (1986), btw. :)

I can confirm the problem (Ubuntu Breezy, Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 from mozilla-europe.org).
