I wanted to get a sense of what the standard Ubuntu user set up is like in order to level set expectations of performance.

I know depending on the type of applications run will influence the horsepower needed so if you could share your main uses along with core components as well as impression of your systems performance.

Main Uses ->

60 % Media : Rip / Watch DVD / MP3's
20 % Web
10 % Games
10 % Office Work

This seems like better off in cafe, not really support.

I'm pretty happy with mine, I built it knowing what I was getting, I should hope it performs well, no problems with compatibility for linux.

Mobo: nvidia 780i
Gfx: 260 GTX
RAM: 8GB DDR2-800
CPU: Q9450 OC 2.9ghz
Drives: SATA 3.0 WD 6400AAKS x 3
Case: COSMOS 1000

As to uses, bit of everything from gaming to rendering to programming and vms. It's a workstation, pretty versatile.
