Remote + media center?

I dont exactly know if this is the right place to posts this... but...

Im trying to set up a media center for my home theater in the near future, and I was wondering how one would use a standard remote with mythbuntu? Would it work comparably to a mouse, or would a wireless mouse be a good investment?

What I'm basically trying to ask is, how can the remote be used to control the computer, and how does it compare to the old mouse and keyboard?

BTW Im a complete noob to the whole media center pc idea, so I need some detailed explanations here.

There are some specific remotes available for computer-based media centres - just check your local shop for options. Some are Windows only (I think), while most work as a wireless keyboard, and you can program each remote button to act as a keyboard shortcut.

Otherwise, get an all-in-one wireless keboard / trackball for full control.
