Cool to build your own computer. :guitar:

One thing I would strongly suggest is you make sure your wireless card will work with Ubuntu. Wireless can be very challenging with Ubuntu because not all hardware manufacturer support Linux and you can see in the forums many people having problems with wireless. I don't know whether your Edimax wireless card will work by default with Ubuntu or not. Hopefully somebody else will be able to help you further with this.

Other than that, I think it should work fine. Do you need help with installing Ubuntu or are you already familiar with the process?

### Edit ###
I just searched for "Ubuntu" in the reviews left by Newegg customers and apparently the Edimax wireless card works out of the box with Ubuntu. You should be all set then!

(edit)Thanks! and wow, I just did the SAME thing. Haha.

I need help installing Ubuntu. I haven't gotten the parts, or putting together anything, because I need to figure out how much money it will cost first. I am getting free os (thank goodness!) that's awesome, but I need to know how to install that into a non-built-in-os system, that I custom built.

If you could help, you do not know how much that would be appreciated!!

2) will it just show up when i put the CD in?!
3) I can't get started until I have the money.. haha. I should be able to get the basics (case, fan, & PSU) in a week or so, but the rest I kind of need to wait on....:(

Once you put everything together, all you have to do is make sure the boot order in the BIOS is set to boot first from your CD-ROM, then pop the Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD in the CD-ROM and reboot. Follow the directions on the screen. If you have any questions during the installation process, you can always come back here and post your questions.

Okay, but how do I "make sure the boot order in the BIOS is set to boot first from your CD-ROM"?! :lolflag:

There are 2 options available in order to boot the computer from the CD:
1/ change the boot sequence permanently in the BIOS so that the settings remain even after you reboot the computer
2/ temporarily change the boot sequence one time if the CD is already present in the CD/DVD drive

1/ Permanent solution:

In order to access the BIOS settings of the motherboard, you need to press one key while the computer is starting. The key to be pressed depends on the manufacturer of the motherboard. In the case of this Gigabyte motherboard, it seems to be the DELETE key as I have found in the manual. You can get the manual from this web page:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Manual_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Manual&FileID=19465

This means that right after you press the power button to turn on your computer, press the DELETE key as soon as you see a screen with text. See page 36 of the manual for details about the screen.

Once you are in the BIOS settings, you need to check the boot sequence and change it if necessary so that the first device listed is the CD/DVD drive. The second device listed should be the primary hard drive.

To do this, you need to use the down arrow to move down to "Advanced BIOS Features" and press Enter. Then move down to "First Boot Device" and press Enter. Once you are in this setting, choose the CDROM as the first boot device as explained in the manual on page 48:

First/Second/Third Boot Device
Specifies the boot order from the available devices. Use the up or down arrow key to select a device and press <Enter> to accept. Options are: Floppy, LS120, Hard Disk, CDROM, ZIP, USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, USB-CDROM, USB-HDD, Legacy LAN, Disabled.
After changing the First Boot Device, change the Second Boot Device and make it the Hard Disk. Press Enter to save the settings.

Once you are done changing the settings, press F10 to save all the changes you made and then press ESC to exit the BIOS settings screen.

From that moment on, your computer will always try to boot from a CD (or DVD) if there is a bootable disc present in the CD/DVD drive. If the disc is not bootable, the computer will then try to boot from the second boot device, which will be the hard drive.

2/ Temporary solution:

Press the F12 key while the computer is starting to access the BIOS screen that will allow you to change boot sequence this one time. Choose CDROM as the boot device. If the CD is already present in the CD/DVD drive, your computer will boot from the CD. This setting will not be saved permanently.
The next time you start your computer, it will boot from the First Boot Device that is saved in the BIOS settings as I explained in 1/ above.

Please check the manual in case I told you something wrong.

Good luck!
