My Gnome session is just the Dust theme that comes with Ubuntu, Liberation fonts (ttf-liberation (apt:ttf-liberation)), and a wood wallpaper you can find in Google for searching for "wood background" or something or another.

Here is a screenshot of a UI experiment. Openbox + xcompmgr + Gnome-Do. And nothing else. :)

Way to continue a bad tradition (Making thread before the month has come), but stop a good one (Adjective-Month Screen Thread).

As it's the start of a new year looks like it'll be a good time to recap.

I set aside my Tux "Merry Christmas" wallpaper to implement a really sharp (IMO) wallpaper designed by phillychease.

Other desktop stats:

Dock: AWN 0.4 (launcher in the middle is home made, to run a Bash script that will force close a misbehaving application - replaces the applet available when using the GNOME panels).

Window Dressing: Compiz/Emerald Theme Manager running a Windows Vista/7-style window dressing. The icon and program windows appearance theme is a customized version of the Mac4Lin theme (from GNOMElook.org).

Desktop font: Vibrocentric

I really like Studio's icons and overall black/blue theme, really fits my computer itself (as my case is black with blue LEDs).

@Mark76: Nice work with xcompmgr. When I reinstall openbox I'll be wanting details about it so keep note :P ;)

@Islington: You didn't put a nice adjective before January in the thread's title! Breaking the newfound tradition? :P

-----------------

My contribution for today. Regressions and minor changes. I plan to go with this desktop and theme for some time to battle the need to change everything every day. Wish me luck. :lolflag:

Details:

GTK2: gGTK (from the elementary pack)
Icons: Magog white v6
Dock: AWN in floaty mode and custom theme.
Font: SegoeUI demibold size 9
Wallpaper: Be Someone (get it here (http://www.socksoff.co.uk/walls07.html))
Firefox: Strata 4.0 (I don't know where I got it, probably one of these threads)
Desktop: Ring sensors and notes screenlets. Exaile desktop cover.

The tarball for xcompmgr-dana can be found here (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22873).

Just do the usual then run. ;)

Incidentally, I've found that xcompmgr in association with openbox gives true rgba transparency to terminals that support it (in my case ROXTerm).

Where can I get that wallpaper?
Unless I'm wrong it looks like the OSX Leopard Space wallpaper. I've seen it online in a few places but it can also be found in the Mac4Lin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/) install pack. (I think I'm seeing an image change so I may be referring to the wrong post. If I am just ignore this.)

I'd put up a screen, because I'm really happy with my desktop, but whenever I try to use Take Screenshot or KSnapshot, All I get is the KDE Air wallpaper. I'm using Ubuntu in virtualbox, btw, windows XP host.

You just get the wallpaper and absolutely nothing else you have opened? I'd try installing kgrab which is a fork of ksnapshot. It may have something to do with virtualbox if you are running it in 'seamless mode' but i'm not sure.

Well I'm not really going for uniqueness. But the icons are black, the only thing that's blue is the progressbar and the selected items and that's really dark so I don't know what it might remind you lol. Brown would look good on them too (dark brown) but I prefer it as it is.

The wallpaper is too glossy/shiny for that theme.... try using something a bit more matte.

Yeah I don't like gnome-panel, awn just feels right. I'll just try not to hover my mouse cursor over too often. :lolflag: Well I tried several other wallpapers. A bright grey looks better than the leather but I prefer them dark so that I don't develop a headache when I minimize a window.

I also just realized thas as the complete idiot that I am I deleted all the openbox configs I had. ](*,)](*,)](*,) I see I'll have to go from scratch again. Thank god I didn't forget my bookmarks lol.

I'm not sure I catch your drift. The stats are where they are so that they're still visible, even when maximising a window. If I put my stats to the side, I'd either have to make the text vertical (which I doubt is even possible with conky, let alone desirable), or have the stats hidden by maximised windows.

hehe i love 9 and megadeth

The theme is unified (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Unified1.0?content=109391). The colour scheme is custom. I attach a screenshot of the colours, use the eye picker to get them. I use the smooth unity GTK and non-glossy unified metacity.

The icons are gnome-black (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Black-Gnome?content=110418) although I've used some for AWN from the iconset allblack (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ALLBLACK?content=70630) and a custom icon I made for chromium cause I couldn't find one. (also attached)
The fonts are segoe ui demibold size 9.
The wall from somewhere earlier in this thread.
And the ring sensors on the desktop with transparent background and completely opaque black colours for text and foreground.
the AWN theme is ridiculously customized, I'll try to attach it too.
EDIT:The terminal colours you can also get with the picker and the font is courier 10 pitch size 9. I've also disabled the menu and the scrollbar.
That's about it I can think of no other useful detail, ask away if you need anything else. :)

PS: Install the icon themes first then the theme for awn and it should show most launchers already customized.

ITP I showcase Opera 10.5 pre-alpha, and it's many quirks

Opera is using it's own toolkit ('Quick') now to emulate gtk/qt instead of being qt itself. This is similiar to how firefox (with xul) and openoffice does as well. Atm it isn't working too well as you can see (and it was more or less fine with stable using qt). Menu are especially bad, it doesn't pick up highlight colours. There's also motion blur on the scrollbar! :O, but at least it actually trying now...

http://omploader.org/tMzVrbQ (http://omploader.org/vMzVrbQ)

The fonts are light and blurry, as are the speed dial thumbnails. =/ another bug I suppose.

All said though, Opera will be interesting to watch. It's *fast* (some benchmarks show it beats chrome - google it), and has got a few gui improvements, like with the location bar. But still highly unstable - randomly goes up to 100% cpu and I need to kill the browser, sometimes it doesn't redraw itself etc

btw: What's the fuss with omploader? I just copy the bbcode it gives you and paste it here. It turns out fine as you can see..

I tend to go for simplicity.

If you were using KDE 4, it would be cool to put the analog clock widget so it is right over the face of the watch like it *is* the watch. That way your wallpaper watch can be telling the REAL time! :lolflag:

Recent revision of Murora-Grey-Owl is in my sig, although I've been toying with the idea of renaming it Bipolar-Owl.

Oh, definitely, do. Bipolar owls rule.
Motion approved.

Glad you like it. :) The icons are Black-Gnome (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Black-Gnome?content=110418).

Go to its preferences (click on it then on the preferences icon that shows on its top right) and change the theme to white (one of them is white) and set its transparency to 70% or 80%. :)

Take a rest perhaps? Let some theme mature before taking a screenshot? :lolflag:
Or better even use something else like omploader.org as chucky said.

I have one last question: what font have you used in the notes screenlet? I've been trying to find a readable handwriting-like font for a while now on dafont.com and can't find any decent one...

Ah, yeah I know what you mean, the font is segoe print, taken from a win7 box.

Thanx for this. would it be possible to post the hex values for each of the customized colors? Its impossible to pick the same colors by hand...

Can you tell me what kinda of theme you have on the top bar, I like it. It would work well with the mac look that I am going after lately.
