View Full Version : [ubuntu] Install additional monitor with Ubuntu 9.10

Hi,

I tried to do that with my laptop.
System -> Preferences -> Display. After I connect a monitor, I was able to detect it. But then Ubuntu told me that some settings had been modified and required the system to re-boot. I then did re-boot. And could not boot anymore. I had to re-install Ubuntu. Fortunately, I had just instllaed Ubuntu and didn't have much stuff on it, but still it sucks.

When I tried to boot, the process would stop at window: "yourname-laptop login: " and then blinks. I tried to boot with the monitor connected, disconnected... Nothing changed. I tried the "Restore system" option from the DVD. Same result.

So, first question: What went wrong?
And then, what am I supposed to do to install an auxiliary monitor?

Thanks for any help,

Ben

I haven't got an answer about the "why", but in order to avoid this kind of trouble, use "xrandr": it will tell you when you're about to do something wrong.
