glad your considering linux!

anyway, if your talking about only themes, there are endless options. there are XP (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/XPLuna?content=83797) and Aero (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Windows+7+Aero+Sin+Fallas?content=113371) themes available for linux.

you may just want to look for more in gnome-look.org (http://gnome-look.org) for all your customization. and refer to Compiz Documentation (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager/CompizFusion) regarding effects.

You want your Ubuntu to look like XP in what way? Oh I get it you don't like brown, well neither do I

Wallpaper? sure just copy the picture across right click on the desktop select "Change Desktop background" and add your Wallpaper picture

Google desktop wallpaper and find something you like.

As for themes on the top Menu select System>Preferences>Appearance

I think Clearlooks should do the trick. Press the Customise button and play around. Oxygene Folders are cool.

You can keep XP and dual boot Ubuntu.

Welcome to Ubuntu and hope you have fun.

The short answer: YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!!! That's one of the most wonderful thing about Ubuntu! You can customize it however you want to! By default it has two panels (on top and bottom), and three separate menus. Right click over the menus and say edit menu. There you can rearrange the menus to be all on one. For the fun of it edit the name of that one and call it Start! Then right click on that menu and say move, then simply drag it to the left of the bottom panel. Drag your Time, Notification Area, and sound controller to the bottom right. You want an XP Icon instead of the Ubuntu one (Sacrilege, just don't post any screen shots or you'll get yelled at)? You can do that too. There's a couple of tutorials on how to do that. I started with panels but quickly moved to a more configurable Dock, because the more I can configure myself, the more I will. One of the many reasons I love Ubuntu (and hate MS).

Check out my old panels set up--
Previous w/panels (http://picasaweb.google.com/onyxwolf.x/Pictures#5390715059392158898) and compare it to my current--
Current w/Cairo-Dock (http://picasaweb.google.com/onyxwolf.x/Pictures#5415221042134014882)

Also had a post when I first decided I wanted to switch to a dock-- Here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1320628)

If you really like the way windows is setup, you might want to consider trying out Kubuntu also. Ubuntu uses a simple desktop environment (called Gnome) that is unique. Kubuntu uses something called KDE. KDE more closely resembles the appearance of Windows. I used to prefer it, but have now moved to Gnome, because it makes more sense to me. There are countless pages of debates for each one. Try them both for yourself and see which you prefer. But don't give up without trying them.

You can install gnome on a kubuntu system and install KDE on a ubuntu system without any problems. You can pick which one to use each time you log in.
