View Full Version : [ubuntu] Dual boot - 9.10 / Vista - grub not working...?

All,

How can I 're-enable' grub (I think)? i.e., I want my dual boot menu back when I start up. At the moment I boot straight into Vista with no option to select Ubuntu. Here's how I got in this mess:

I use Ubuntu almost exclusively, rarely do I boot into Vista. Today I decided to select Vista and it would just hang. Reading another post on this forum I tried to 'repair' Vista by using the installation CD, choosing repair, the command prompt and typing bootrec.exe /fixboot and bootrec.exe /fixmbr. After doing that successfully I rebooted and the usual grub menu that allowed me to select Ubuntu or Vista no longer appeared. Instead I was in an endless cycle of rebooting and Vista hanging. Several reboots later with no luck, I just did a complete fresh install of Vista (on the prexisting Vista partion) and here I am typing this using IE.

I'm really hoping there's some easy way to restore / recover the grub menu and back to Ubuntu.

As always, any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian.
