Fed up Windows/Microsoft pc user looking to step into the Ubuntu planet, but can't get it to run or even show up on my computer.

I DL Xubuntu 8.10 Desktop to install on my Panasonic CF-47, 128M Ram, PIII processor. I created an image on the CD and tried installing several times. It seems to get to the point where it says "installing" several files and "[ok]" shows out to the right. But then the screen freezes right there and I get nothing, no desktop, letters on keyboard work, but nothing else. It seems to make the laptop like a cheap typewriter. I need help, please!

Thanks,
TXBBQ

http://www.xubuntu.org/get looks to me that you need to d/l and install not the desktop version but the alternate install iso (see System Requirements in above link).

I would only install Xubuntu if the pc had 256mb.
There is a YouTube video showing a guy who has 128mb of ram and he installed Xubuntu.
He used 7.10 though and I assume he used a swap file.
You might try Puppy Linux 4.3.1 and install it to the hard drive if you only have 128mb.

You could also try Linux Mint fluxbox.
