Hello,

Ubuntu 9.10 on a new machine. When I ran my fresh Eclipse Galileo 3.5.1, I noticed menus and buttons were rendered incorrectly and/or not available. The fix was to set the following before starting Eclipse:

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1

Easy enough, replace the executable with a startup script.

However, it now appears that many applications will work better with this variable. Apparently, the applications have not caught up to this new, 9.10 gnome, way of rendering user interface components.

What is the downside of setting this variable for ALL applications (.bashrc) ?

TIA!
Adam.

I have major problems with the UI on 9.10 on my old dell inspiron 9200. It used to run 9.04 with no problem

Please see:

I don't know how to set the GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 globally, and it is probably worth a try.

Plase email me or interact with the above forum entry.

Thanks

Additional information:
1.I open the terminal, type bash
2.Execute the export line above
3.Open firefox

Result: Change to the drag-n-drop icon (to infinity sign), seems peppier, but still see some of the problems.
