I'm new to Ubuntu so i was hoping to get some insight into a problem I'm having installing 9.10 onto an older laptop. Is even possible to install it on my older laptop?
When installing I have a split screen.

System is:
Dell Inspiron 8000
CPU=700mhz
256mb ram
video controller = HTI M4
video memory= 16mb
10 gig hdd

You need a lighter Desktop. Karmic Koala will not boot or run well with 256 of RAM

OK problem solved.......I'm posting this result in case someone else runs into this split screen problem.
I thought my old laptop was under powered but i got it to install and now it works perfect without a split screen.

What I did was searched for a while finally came across someone else with the same problem in the tech section.

When installing I hit F4 and set it to safe graphics mode and it works perfect.

Granted my old P3 laptop isn't as fast as my dual core laptop but it works pretty good and I'm happy with it.

I have only been using Ubuntu for less than a week and I absolutely love it !

These forums are excellent too.

Thanks for the help to those who posted possible solutions for me I appreciate the help.
