Okay. I was finally able to install ubuntu while running it off the disc with graphics safe mode. After it installed, it booted (by the way,it took a very long time to show the log in screen) and the resolution was much less than what it should be (640x480) when my full resolution should be 1440x900. When I restarted after installing the restricted drivers for nvidia, my resolution stayed the same. I went into system>prefrences>display. After clicking that, it said my current driver could not support the extensions and that only the nvidia software installed could change this. So I ran that, went in to detect my monitors, and it still only lets me have 640x480. I am able to enable all of the desktop effects and such, but my resolution is very slow, and the log in screen takes forever to show. Was there something wrong with the installation or something?

By the way, my video card is a nvidia geforce 9800 gt.

Could it be that I'm stuck in safe graphics mode since that is the way I installed it?
