I've been using *buntu for couple years, and I rely on a relatively slow cell phone link for internet and that worked fine until couple months ago, everything required internet connection had become crawlingly slow. I checked with my provider but there is nothing wrong with it, and my cell phone access the internet at normal speed, so I suspect there is something to do with the OS. I know many OS and s/w has 'go home' feature build in to send back user settings, preference, error log..etc. for good or for bad, and I suppose *buntu is no different, but is there any changes recently ie. server or redirection...etc. ??

not by default and not to ubuntu.

you can use the wireshark gui or tcpdump cli to identify and analyse all packets on the link so you can verify for yourself

No Linux distro that I know of does anything like that, and I don't know of any malware for Linux that does that. It may be a settings glitch in Firefox, but not likely an OS problem.
