I am going back to help out. I've already linuxed 4 of his [old] computers. [2 ubuntu 2 puppy]
Now another 2 with the original OS [XP?] botched, disks lost, etc.

This fellow was in I.T. [high end printer sales/service]
Truely a case of the cobbler's childeren's shoes.

Last time it was a lightning hit that took out the last working household computer. Disabling the onboard lan and plugging a card in got the hardware solved. Replacing the virus laden OS got him back online. The other 3 were a package of hardware/OS problems too. Now he has dredged up 2 more boxes.

Probably can't find the Ubuntu disk I left behind.
The good news is that he is not asking for win.
This is a big change for him.
He was, in general, about as linux friendly as the printers he serviced.
We have known each other since K-12. We are retired and he is not rushing out to buy an OS.

PS sorry about that archaic reference

I've never heard this expression. What does it mean?

I think it's the same as the plumber with a leaking toilet.
