View Full Version : [ubuntu] Install Problems, CD Integrity Test

I have an iso file of Ubuntu 8.04, which I've copied to a CD-RW. However, when I boot up the CD on my new laptop (Dell Studio XPS 16) and run the CD Integrity test, it always comes back saying that there was an error found in a single file. It doesn't give me any further details than that.

I've tried burning the iso file on both my new laptop and old laptop, at various writing speeds, all the way down to 1x, although my new laptop only allows the file to be burnt at 4x, and my old laptop's CD drive has seen better days. It's always a single file that comes up as being a problem. I've checked the hash of the iso file, so I know there's no issue at that point.

So, should I try a new iso file, or a new CD, or try burning it on a different computer? How inadvisable would it be to try booting Ubuntu from the CD in question regardless of the single damaged file?
