I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 (32-bit) on my computer with the following config:

Mainboard : Gigabyte M61PME-S2P
Chipset : nVidia 6100V
Processor : AMD Phenom X4 9650 @ 2300 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Device Audio : Creative SBLive!
Hard Disk 01: Hitachi (500 GB)(sda)
Hard Disk 02: WDC (320 GB)(sdb)
DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H42N
Monitor Type : Samsung SyncMaster - 17 inches

The installation progresses till about 89% and just before installing grub, the installer crashes and a box comes up saying that Ubiquity has crashed.

I have Windows XP and OpenSuse 11.2 installed allready on sda1 and sda10 respectively. I was trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on sda11.

Early Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit had installed normally and Kubuntu 9.10 32-bit had also installed smoothly without any issue.

A bit of an update:
I installed Opensuse 11.2 Gnome and it worked fine. Tried the Ubuntu 9.10 install once more but the installer crashed again. It crashes when the installer is in the "configuring hardware" stage near the end and before installing the grub. I wonder if the alternate install CD will work...
