Just a couple of non-ubuntu-centric questions regarding audio cables, wife just got a keyboard for Christmas and well would like to hook it up to her computer so.....

1. what is the cable called that goes from say the headphone jack of a device to the line in of a computer called?

2. what is the adapter thing called that has a big headphone jack that plugs over the small head jack

They are technically called TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) connectors, but if you just say you want a "jack cable", everyone will understand what you're talking about. The "small" variant is 3.5mm and the "big" one is 6.35mm.

I've always heard them called phono plugs. The small one usually goes by 3.5mm and the big one by 1/4".
