There's always the Ubuntu shop (https://shop.canonical.com/), which would help provide some of the money.

Maybe that's just a guess based on how much traffic it gets. (Or how much money a spammer might stand to make here.) As far as I know there are no ads on this site.

That websiteoutlook page looks like it intends to be most useful for some company which looks to buy the website up.

The estimated worth I can understand because of the huge traffic but the ads revenue?
The only thing I can perhaps point to is the bookmarks at the bottom of the forum?

This is based merely on web statistics. If you even attempted to base it on content and contributions, 1.5 million is pocket change. One of the great things about this site being not-for-profit, is that the entire community gets to benefit from the experience of all and equally share back without it hitting their pocket book. The fact that its freely accessible makes it invaluable.

No add here.. We do not make "profit" as in money. Originally, ubuntu-geek used to pay himself for the licence and hosting. Now Canonical does it. "Profits" are for the community who can use the forums as a help resource, not for some share holders.

How it works?

Websiteoutlook contains a collection of actual number of pageview from other websites. The visitor data is combined with information about number of links that point towards the site, country, Alexa ranking and other data that is available on-line. All this information has been used to make a formula that uses the information that is available on-line to estimate the number of pageviews, its worth and possible daily incom that the site has.

How accurate is WebsiteOutlook?

It is not an exact science, but it does give you a very good picture of how many pageview, daily ads revenue a website has. It can be used for numerous purposes especially when doing research. An Advertisers can get an estimate of how many pageview a site has before buying adverts. If you want to buy a website or domain Websiteoutlook can give you a pretty good idea about the number of pageview and website worth the site has before contacting the owner. Websiteoutlook is good for any initial research or just because you're curious.
