I just installed Kubuntu (9.10) an hour ago on my notebook beside Ubuntu. I tried installing the vlc with the packages I downloaded for Ubuntu. But the shell script written for installing those packages no longer works. When I doudle click on it, it doesnot seem to perform any action. When I try to run with the option "open with > sh" it displays a new tab named "sh" in the taskbar but will not display anything, nor it gets installed. I would like to know if I am missing anything.

Also I would like to know the substitute for Synaptic. Where can I get it? Is it installed by default?
