View Full Version : [ubuntu] Kernel switching

Hi everybody,

my old Pentium III laptop on which is running Ubuntu 9.10 has the following kernel (got with uname -r):

Is it possible to have a new kernel optimized for 686 ? I've tried installing with Synaptic but even if installed I'm not able to do the necessary switch.
What is the procedure? Is it worthy?
Thanks a lot to everyone.

That is what you have. There are two 9.10 kernel versions 32 bit and 64 bit. You then get different groups of software in the desktop, server, netbook and maybe others. You also have the Long term support kernel and software versions in 8.04.

All right, let's get more in detail:

in the laptop it's installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 32 bit version, in the form of the iso image you are able to get free.
Is this helpful ? :)
