Firefox only accepts one domain per SSL certificate?

I created a ssl certificate with two common names, example.com and *.example.com, to cover my entire website. When I visit https://example.com, it works perfectly, but when I visit https://home.example.com (same IP/server), it says its invalid because it is only reading the first CA. Is there any way to create a SSL certificate to cover *.example.com and example.com?

I am not really using example.com

EDIT: I am not worried about being an "Untrusted Issuer".
