Hello,

I am or was a happy owner of a AWLL3026 wireless adapter from airlink101 on Ubuntu 9.04 until recently. For some reason and I don't know why after the upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 I can no longer stay connected to my dad's wireless router. Even when I do get connected it only shows up as having a 9% connection in gnome and my network speed maxes out at around 30-40 KB per second. Usually was around 100-150 KB per second before.

I am not really interested in trouble shooting at this point, so can someone recommend me a wireless adapter that has a LONG RANGE?

Preferably one around $40-$60.

Yes I pulled that model off of the top of my head. They've worked flawlessly for me. I've had several.

hm... thats an interesting choice, seems that other people with a poor signal have use this as a solution. I am on the whole other side of the house from where the router is if anyone is wondering.

I had another wifi with a Realtek chip-set that didn't like Ubuntu, did it work out-of-box?

i was never able to get mine working well under either 8.10 or 9.04. haven't tried installing 9.10 yet, i'll maybe get round to it over christmas, but the problem with that adapter is there are various different chipsets (5 in all iirc)

Every house brings with it new and interesting problems. My sisters home is fine until her neighbors come home. The neighbors do something that wonks her wireless. I switched the router to the other side of the house and everything is fine now. I'm just saying this is what works for me and I get a very strong signal 15 meters from the router. Any NIC that uses a Ralink chip I would trust as well.
