I am a longtime Windows XP user running Ubuntu on a secondary computer in my room. I have absolutely no experience using any of the features of this OS so detailed descriptions are greatly appreciated

I have the game KQ installed directly from Add/Remove Applications and it had a bug in which the game crashes when you're in Dungar's house after being attacked by the assassin. (I have seen others complain of this). After searching for a while I came across a site which had an update which fixed the bug

http://sourceforge.net/projects/kqlives/files/

Specifically called kq-0.99.tar.gz
I downloaded it and it's sitting on my desktop. I'm not sure how to make it work! I tried extracting it with Ark but it crashed. Can someone give me specific directions that can get me all the way to the point in which everything works?

.tar.gz is a compressed archive. it contains the source for the game you want. first you'll have to extract the contents, and then compile the game.
