I was trying to install some programs (still having trouble) through the terminal and somewhere along the line I mustve messed up because now update manager comes up with a message saying

"An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Type 'wget' is not known on line 59 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'"

please if anyone can help that would be great

I am also getting this message when I run the synaptic package manager

E: Type 'wget' is not known on line 59 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

You've got some junk in your software sources (/etc/apt/sources.list)... what happened?

If you're not sure,

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

and paste the output here.

Cool, so all you need to do is edit this file:

gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Then, delete this line:

wget http://www.getautomatix.com/apt/key.gpg.asc

and maybe this line too (it's for Edgy, an older version of ubuntu):

deb http://www.getautomatix.com/apt edgy main

Save the file and try again, hopefully it will work this time! Good luck.
