Well.... wakarimashita is still in early development, but it will be done by the 25th and it's to be released on the 26th. It will be alpha, with only a few features, but usable. On the 26th, I am setting up a doom server for all to join. If you want to join, then join, fun for all! However, I have no idea what the best way to do this is. Seggestions?

I'm sure a doom server will be lots of fun.

What's wakarimashita? And I'd prefer a game of Quake 3, as much as I love DOOM.

I prefer Urban Terror. Anyway, it's his distro that he's making.

If I can't pronounce it, or "fake my mistake", no way in hell am I trusting it to not steal my megabytez.

On topic, ReMOOD (http://remood.sourceforge.net/standard/index.php?page=download) is probably the best suited source-port for this.

That's just the codename as of now. I will think of a better name later on.

Thanks. I'll check that out. *Clicks link*

a doom server? if you're hosting from home, don't expect more than a few players that will allow for decent pings. set maxclients to 6 or something less.

It's not doom 3 or anything. Just the original doom, well actually freedoom.

bandwidth is bandwidth. what's your upload rate?

dragos240

1.85 mb/s

Does doom actually use that much bandwidth?

i doubt it. the game has no Y axis at all, and no differentiation between head shots and body shots, etc.

It shouldn't take that much. I was hoping to get about 50-60 people on here, and have a party! Well.... a blood drenched party. :D

Has anyone here hosted a doom server?

What sort of partitioning does this project need to install?

Hmm...? Oh, wakarimashita? Any partition that the linux kernel supports should work. You can use swap if you want. But it doesn't matter. It's a very bare distro. No graphics. Just an easy install guide, fused with pacman, and emerge. It's very alpha, so be careful!

It matters more about how many connections you can take per second. Besides, 50-60 will be a cluster****.

Does it have a gui yet? If no, do you think I'd have any luck trying to instal XFCE.

You should use Étoilé and be all hip and cool.

Not installed by default. You will need to either compile it from source, or get everything from pacman (i686 & x86_64 only I'm afraid). Do you have experience with installing everything from a barebones environment? If not, it's not a distro for you.

By barebones, do you mean a terminal?

By barebones, do you mean a terminal?

Yes. A terminal. A plain vanilla terminal. Just bash, and a few other necessities. You will need to install alsa (your sound system), XORG (graphics) and everything else. This is not for everyone. Most people just want a distro that works instantly. But if you want cutting edge customization. Then gentoo, arch, and wakarimashita will be your top choices.

Where are you storing these precompiled packages?

Marvin666
December 22nd, 2009, 03:47 AM
Still not familiar with bash yet. Before I used linux, I could write batch files (windows version of a shell script) to do just about everything, but now I can't do any terminal work. I also used to be fluent in html. If you don't use it, you loose it...

I also used to be fluent in html.

It only takes 5 minutes to pick up HTML.

I'm using pacman. And arch's repos. I hope they don't mind :)
