Is there some functionality or fix in 9.10 that you can't get in 8.04? If not, I'd stick with 8.04. It is the current LTS and will be supported until April 2013.
If you just want to upgrade for the sake of it, I'd recommend waiting until April 2010 when the next LTS is released.
Here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading#Network%20Upgrade%20for%20Ubuntu%20Serve rs%20%28Recommended%29) are the instructions for upgrading a server. Note that you cannot upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 directly (Upgrade Notes (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes)).

I recommend waiting until April when the next LTS is released. (Or even a little longer until all the bugs have been squashed.)

I'll wait for the next.
Our servers are working very well. I was just surprised by the lack of updates compared to a desktop ubuntu.

Merci à vous.

Don't knock stability. Servers (and admins) like stability ;)
