Skip Application Upgrades in Update Manager

I'm running the old 8.1 but have the new Firefox 3.5.6 installed. Update manager has been asking me lately to "upgrade" to Firefox 3.0. Does anyone know if there is a way to exclude certain apps from the update manager? Oh, I would like to know that, thanks.

go to synapticpackagemanager and lock the app
