I decided to reinstall Ubuntu so I could dual boot windows. Wiped the harddrive. First time I installed it barely took a 1Gb. I look at my new install and its over 3.5 fricken GB? what happend!

Where did you install Ubuntu?

correction. Harddrive isnt as big as I thought it was, but Ubuntu is still using 3.5Gb. I split the drive in half, and Installed ubuntu (unfortunately) on the 2nd half of the drive.

I don't know what you did the first time but a 9.10 desktop default install on my pc is around 2.7GB without starting to add any software.

3.5gb is normal (and in fact the wiki recommend 8gb minimum so you have room to install new applications).

wow. That is really weird. Yea by the time I was done installing everything I wanted I was at only 715Mb.

Boo. Thats frustrating.
