I was wondering how many people there was in New York State that used Ubuntu or one of its derivatives. I created the poll with the officially supported list and the recognized list from the Ubuntu website. I added other for obvious reasons. If you use more then one or jump around (like I do) then just vote on the one you currently use the most. For me that is Xubuntu but it changes for various reasons. I like KDE, Gnome and Xubuntu but I am not always happy with new releases, same goes for, for example, Xubuntu, Kubuntu or Ubuntu, etc.

Cool. Looks like I am the only one that uses Ubuntu in New York. I think I like that, lol :guitar:

Edit: I take that back, there are two of us. Just as good :)

I am also near lake Ontario in a little city called Rochester.

Are you a member of any LUGs?

Are you a member of the NY LoCo?

Well I don't usually say exactly where I live but I have to this time, lol. I live in Rochester as well.

The only thing I am able to do at this time is join online groups.I am not sure where to find Ubuntu or Linux specific online groups for this area. Well except for the Ubuntu one here at this forum.

There are numerous groups in Rochester. One of the longest running LUGs in existence in fact.

www.lugor.org (in progress new website is - http://www.lugor.org/joomla_www/)

I am the lead contact for it.

There are also fairly regular Ubuntu LoCo meetings in Rochester.

I am the President of the NY LoCo and organize the Rochester events.

We have several events coming up this spring.

There is also RCSI and an RCSI Linux Sig.

Feel free to send me a private message in the forums if you want more information.

I am the only one in this state that uses Xubuntu, lol. Well so far there are only five of us total that use Ubuntu or Xubuntu. Not bad, but there has to be more.

You need to rephrase that to there are only 5 people using Linux that have 'read this thread'. We have more than 5 Linux users in Rochester alone.

I am just being creative a bit so I can bump the thread, hated to just say BUMP, lol. I know there are more then this in Rochester/NYS, especially since Absolute Linux was born here.

I am liking some of the demonstrations I am seeing for the NY events in Rochester. I only know what I have learned through need but a few things I would like to learn more about.

Now this may sound stupid (remember I have never been to anything offline before) but is their a charge at all?

Thanks for these links, love the LUGOR website, the new one.

No there is no cost for any of the events that are held by LUGOR or the LoCo... some of the events we attend to have a cost.
