after a friend was successful upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10, I decided to ignore the longstanding rule that "upgrades NEVER work for me".
Sure enough, something barfed and "initramfs-tools" failed to install properly. I hit the "can we tell the developers about this" button and that was the end of the upgrade.
It never reached the "clean up" stage but my system seems to be working ok and is upgraded to 9.10.
My question is, do I need to look for a huge install directory to delete, or is there a ton of package tarballs I need to remove? I have no idea where to look.
