Uhhhhhh...........

Something that will last forever and never be obsolete.

By the way, in about 24 years, we'll hit the processor limit on computing.

3-5 years, and it'll be obsolete. You have to remember that most "high spec" GPUs (IE: Nvidia GTS 250) have 128 cores.

12gb ram just to overkill it

My Intel Core 2 Quad (Max Processor) GIGABYTE Motherboard can do 16 (or more if I recall) GB of RAM =/

I need to get me a new Power Supply.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but why is that kid from the IBM Linux commercial dressed up like Santa Cluas?

Just to be relevent I'll say...

quantum PC (which is why its a dream), running windows so it will actually play games...and its speed should deal with any slowness

a computer that is so powerful that it runs all games better in wine than any windows computer can natively. also, it would be dead silent and run entirely on solar power

Excellent cases for air cooling. Just front gets dusty daily. But its better the over heating.

What about these tiny desktops?

Granted they're desktops, they need a monitor, but they're certainly more portable. If only they were more powerful....

A server rack, with i7s in a cluster, and a crapload of very fast SSDs in a raid, for the fastest computing experience possible. Another rack, dedicated solely to hard drives. Terabytes upon terabytes of space.

Mine will be able to walk around and follow me where ever I go and call for me when I receive mail, chit chat, messenger and do most of the computer chores. No keyboard just voice recognition and touch screen. At home the computer will just sit down and pop a 20" LCD for me to catch up some movie on line. Now that will be awesome.

I haven't found a computer online that can be customized to such a ridiculous degree as the Apple Mac Pro (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro?mco=MTAyNTQzNDQ)

You can choose up to 32GB of ram...

32 Gigabytes!!!!

Really what would you do with that much RAM today or 5 years down the road.
Server.. yes, Desktop.. No..
Even Vista64bit and Debian64bit both only use around 1-1.2GB of my 4GB of RAM after days of use.

I don't think I mentioned anything about the mac pro customized with 32GB of ram being my dream pc...i was just saying how you can customize it to that degree.

But come to think of it, if I were a billionaire, I would probably get the 32GB on the mac pro...whats a few thousand dollars anyway? :guitar:

bragging rights comes to mind :)

I could seriously see a hollywood star or just a really rich mac fan boy just maxing out the specs on a mac pro because he wants the 'best computer' even though he would have no idea about the unnecessary-ness of the high amount of ram. ...hmm that sounded really confusing...

I think some video or 3D modeling for movies may need a huge amount like that.
The Macs I seen had 6GB per stick listed. SO if they have 4 ram slots, possibly have 24GB easily.

I really like the iMac. I have the best chance of getting one over something like a Mac Pro. let's be reasonable here..

otherwise, if i really had the money I'd get a Mac Pro. i'm a gamer and the imacs just don't have a good graphics card. not really sure on the current hardware lineups but i might have to get a weaker/older mac pro so i can get a better graphics card. all in fantasy, of course.
