I am currently running an upgraded Karmic system.

How can I start with a fresh install and ensure I have the same packages I am running with now?

Is there a good reliable guide for this?

Thanks

Well i have pictures, movies, ect ect on a separate disk. So I just need to backup the actual packages or the list of packages so that I can re-install them. I found this page.

http://www.online-blogger.net/2009/11/09/ubuntu-karmic-koala-clean-install-vs-upgrade/

And the 1st command doesnt work for me.

sudo dpkg --get-selections > /home/USERNAME/packages.backup

(and yes I changed username ;) )

I like his idea though, so that's why I am posting here.
