This may be a silly question, but...

Was the official Ubuntu website designed on Ubuntu / Linux?

Anyone know?

Why not ask them yourself - http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus/contactus

I would have said that myself...

...but I have already asked them an almost identical question and have yet to hear a reply from them. :-|

It's probably a tricky question to answer. A bit like: "Why is Canonical using vBulletin for its community forum rather than an open source product? Are the open source alternatives less capable than the commercial vBulletin?". :P

(I love vBulletin, both as user and admin of some sites that use vBulletin, but I always found it funny that a site heavily devoted to (also) open source software runs their community platform with a commercial, closed-source product.)

I believe that the forum is privately run and seperate from Canonical. Also...the question i had asked them was:

Was the artwork that was created on this page done in GIMP?

Pretty simple question if you ask me.

The domain at least belongs to Canonical.

UbuntuForums History:
The UbuntuForums were created by Ryan Troy (ubuntu-geek) (http://moxiefoxtrot.com/) in October 2004 the forums quickly became a popular resource for Ubuntu and was deemed the Official Ubuntu forums in November 2004. The forums hosting continued to be maintained and paid for by Ryan until March 2006 when Canonical graciously offered hosting for the forums. In June of 2007 the forums domain, license and assests were transfered over to Canonical they now maintain sole ownership of the forums. Ryan continues maintain the forums and serve's on the Forums Council along with KiwiNZ, jdong, Technoviking, matthew, bodhi.zazen and bapoumba.

I guess Canonical does own the forum. :-)

However, they don't run it or maintain it. :-)
