View Full Version : [xubuntu] bizarre tv card behaviour

hey everyone, recently started dualbooting XP and Xubuntu 9.10, been getting a long fine with adding packages etc etc not come across any serious problems that a little searching wouldn't fix until now.

I created channels.conf file to use with VLC to watch TV, this worked fine the first night, but now it will only work if I first reboot into XP, then reboot back to xubuntu :o

the card is a hauppauge hvr-1110, im guessing something isn't going right at startup but i've no idea what or how to find out, i've included output of lsmod and dmesg in case these are useful to someone.

i think it might have something to do with:

timeout waiting for DSP readywhich flashes up just before desktop is loaded.

anyone got any ideas please?

think i've managed to solve this, needed to get the firmware for the tvcard.

followed a few of the steps from this page http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-1110

obtained the file get_dvb_firmware from here (file save page as): http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/dvb/get_dvb_firmware

then executed the code to get and extract the firmware file needed:

perl get_dvb_firmware tda10046and finally copied the .fw file into /lib/firmware directory and rebooted.

seems to be working from cold boots now, without having to boot into windows first and then reboot into xubuntu.

obtained the file get_dvb_firmware from here (file save page as): http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/dvb/get_dvb_firmware

then executed the code to get and extract the firmware file needed:

perl get_dvb_firmware tda10046and finally copied the .fw file into /lib/firmware directory and rebooted.

seems to be working from cold boots now, without having to boot into windows first and then reboot into xubuntu.

whilst this has got the card working properly on every boot i get quite a long pause with the message " tda1004x: timeout waiting for DSP ready".

bit of thread searching here has come up with the solution to install the linux-firmware-nonfree package, which seems to have solved the problem.


sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfreeso i think the problem is solved once and for all, no more posts about it...:biggrin:
